Well it looks like we’ve reached a major milestone at Gin and Comics… our first major blooper.
It also looks like I owe you guys an apology. I think the saying “Great minds think alike” applies here. Let me explain.
Friday I posted my latest strip, “Jumping the Shark-Pool”. It was one of the strips that I’ve had the most fun doing and I was really proud of it. Such as it was, someone beat me to the punch. Thanks to a helpful fan who sent me the link, I discovered this strip by the very talented Ryan Sohmer. So, needless to say, I pulled my strip.
I think it’s safe to say that we’re all a little frustrated with the oversaturation of new Deadpool titles. With Lady Deadpool, Dogpool and Kidpool floating around (not to mention Wade’s zombie head), you’ve gotta wonder what else they’re going to throw at us. Bullshitting with friends, I mentioned that Marvel was really jumping the shark on this one; and Sharkpool was born… Apparently I wasn’t alone in my thinking. I have to laugh at the coincidence of it and grimace at the idea of how possible Sharkpool could really be.
I’ve actually read Sohmer’s other strip, Least I Could Do in the past. It’s good stuff but, like most other webcomics, I eventually dropped off due to my overwhelming amount of print reading. After the weekly releases, which lead to weekly reviews, writing and drawing the strip, and my actual life… I’m tapped. So I pretty much just keep up with two and read the occasional forwarded strips when I can. I wasn’t aware Sohmer had a new project until this fiasco, but the two issues I read are pretty good (though, considering the circumstances I may be a little biased).
So at the end of the day, this is a little embarrassing and a lot of heartbreaking, but life goes on. It sucks to work so hard on something, only to have to pull it. But he beat me to it and, like playground rules dictate, fair is fair.
To make up for all of this, you fine folks get Tuesday’s strip early. So enjoy! I’m heading to bed.
