Mark Wahlberg Has Been Offered the Lead in “The Crow” Remake

So here is one you can file in the… “um…k” file. It seems that actor Mark Wahlberg has been offered the lead role of Draven in the upcoming “The Crow” remake written by Nick Cave and Stephen Norrington (“Blade”, “League of Extraordinary Gentlemen”). Any other news on the project has been scarce, except for the mention that the new story will take place in Detroit.

Now the move to Wahlberg has alot of fans screaming in agony, but I’m not so sure I’m one of them. Wahlberg has more then proven himself to be an incredible actor, and I believe that he could pull off the quiet, dark hero role quite well. But the thing with “The Crow” is this; the 1994 release of the film starring the belated Brandon Lee is almost sacred for some fans. Hell, I may be one of them. “The Crow” has been one of my all-time favorite movies since I first saw it over a decade ago, and along with “A Nightmare Before Christmas”, it’s the only movie I make sure to watch every year.

So with all that in mind, (coupled with the epic failures that marked the last two “Crow” releases) I’m not sure if this movie even needed a remake to begin with, but let’s be honest with ourselves, Hollywood could do a lot worse then Mark Wahlberg.
