Internet Celeb Carol Zara Gets Slammed by the Facebook Ban-hammer

In an odd turn of events, internet celeb and nerd-culture pin-up Carol Zara has been told by Facebook that she is not welcome there any more. Zara, the owner of the very popular blog Digitally Blonde is not exactly the most innocent party. She posts several pin-ups of herself, some dressed as April O’Neil of TMNT fame in bondage, and most recently a pic where she laid naked, with only a carefully placed cephalopod (octopus) to cover up her naughty bits.

In fact her account was shut down shortly after this pic posted, which led many believe that was the pic that finally pushed Facebook too far (for those of you who don’t know, facebook has a strict no nudity policy). However that is not the case, in fact the reason for this article is because what finally made Facebook say enough is that she “regularly contacts strangers”.

That little quote doesn’t sit well with me. It’s not like Carol is parked outside of a school luring kids back to her panel van with a handful of Smarties, no, she’s talking with her fans. If you sent Carol a message on Facebook, she took the time to reply to you. Much like you would hope any celeb using the service would do. Hell, contacting people I don’t know is something I do regularly on Facebook, chances are you are reading this article because I have gotten in touch with you in some way though Facebook.

I understand that Facebook has the right to do whatever it wants with it’s product, and if she were say, harassing people, this would be a completely different story. But that’s not the case, love or hate what she does, you can’t deny that Carol is great to her fans. Contacting them all regularly, responding to their comments and messages, and always trying to give them something entertaining to look at.

There is currently a #FreeZara campaign going on Twitter, and Carol is reaching out to anyone with a blog or site to help her get out the story that Facebook has squashed. Facebook has been a great tool for me, and many of my peers, I would hate to picture a future where we can be banned for trying to grow our fan base.
